The UX world initially felt overwhelming. I came from teaching, not tech, and every other platform left me confused. IxDF didn’t. I started with Become a UX Designer from Scratch. Each section introduced tools and terms through practical examples, not textbook definitions. Lessons included visuals, quizzes, and guided paths that made it all feel manageable. I joined a local IxDF group, built out mock projects, and stayed motivated. After a year, I had a working portfolio. It included wireframes, real personas, and clean design flows. I applied for internships and got one. The structure and support made all the difference.
From starting my first Design Thinking course to landing a job as a UX Designer in another big organisation took me just 6 months. IxDF has shaped my basic as well as advanced skills in Experience Design and gave me a lot of confidence in my design process and decision making. IxDF has a one of the Best design education from industry experts, compact and effective when applied it unleashes the power of Kraken.
Reasons why I go there for years:- Price! unbeatable compared to other platforms - Content! Highly verified content by best of the best UX/UI people with real psychological background - Time! Go as you wish, taking a 4 week break is no problem. - Contact! Wow, a platform where you actually get personal feedback within shortest time.
I joined IxDF in 2024, completely new to the field of UX. Looking back after a year, the transformation I’ve experienced is incredible. The content is structured with clarity and depth — from foundational topics to advanced UX strategy — and always supported by practical examples and real-world applications. What makes this platform stand out is not just the quality of the materials, but also the vision behind it. I genuinely admire the founders for building such a rich and accessible learning ecosystem from the ground up. It’s clear that every detail has been crafted with care. IxDF hasn’t just taught me UX — it’s empowered me to think like a designer. Thank you for creating a space where learners from all backgrounds can grow with confidence.
I joined IxDF a few years ago while transitioning from graphic design to UX design. Before that, I was learning through YouTube tutorials and free courses from various websites. While those resources gave me a basic understanding, they eventually became repetitive and remained at an introductory level. IxDF, however, offered structured courses from well-reputed experts that really helped me grow, which for me was worth the investment. With the knowledge I gained, I was able to create my first portfolio, and the certificates I earned caught the attention of a few recruiters on LinkedIn. Now, it's my third year, as a UX designer and I'm still learning with IxDF. They consistently update their course material to keep up with new technology, and their customer support has been exceptional. Overall, I’ve had a really positive experience and couldn't be happier.
I am a self-taught UI/UX designer, and a huge part of my learning comes from IxDF. As a fresher with a master's in Information Technology and no prior background in UI / UX, I built a strong foundation through their courses.Initially, I was skeptical, as many platforms are profit - driven, leveraging trends and niches to attract customers only to leave them astray. But IxDF was different—I received incredible support from one of the co - founders, Rikke Friis Dam.When I faced issues with course enrollment, she made exceptions that allowed me to complete my courses.for instance, IxDF usually limits users to two active courses at a time, and enrolled courses must be completed.I mistakenly enrolled in a course and reached out to her—without rigidly citing policies, she understood my situation and helped me switch courses.More recently, when my professional membership ended, I applied for a student membership, which only allows two active courses. At the time, I had three. She granted me a grace period to complete one course and converted the remaining grace days into credits, reducing my membership cost.IxDF remains my go - to platform for its outstanding support, genuine care for its members, and industry - relevant courses designed by professionals.
As a career changer, I was searching for a comprehensive and reliable platform to build my UX/UI design skills. The Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) has been an absolute game-changer for me. I'm incredibly satisfied with the depth and thoroughness of their courses.IxDF was the first platform I discovered, and I haven't looked back since. I've been consistently taking their courses and am always impressed by the quality.I eagerly anticipate each new course release() and highly recommend IxDF to anyone serious about mastering UX / UI design(), especially those transitioning into the field.
IxDF has been excellent. As someone with a psychology background, this organization gave me the knowledge to start transferring the skill into the style of work I want to do. Alongside this, they come with certificates. So, if you seek to gain knowledge and get an industry-recognized certificate, I highly recommend IxDF!
After 1 year at IDxF, I was able to enhance my skills in UX and service design. I have 8 years of experience as a Product Designer. The training content is didactic, and the videos and testimonials from professionals are very instructive. I completed 9 training courses. I also met several colleagues with whom I have interesting discussions outside the platform. Lastly, the customer service is great. I had an issue with my invoice, and Rikke resolved it in less than 24 hours. The only downside is the time required. Understandable. But you should know that it will take between 2 and 4 hours per week for it to be effective. So it’s an investment. If you have the time, whether you're an expert or a beginner, go for it.

For any current/aspiring UI/UX professionals/students, do not hesitate to invest in the courses/membership with IxDF. The breadth and quality of the course material is outstanding. IxDF is especially helpful for those who are changing fields.
I transitioned from chemical engineering to UI/UX design. Although most of the courses I took from IxDF were asynchronous, I often felt like the instructors understood and addressed what I was feeling in the moment. The balance between video and written content in the lessons made it easier for me to retain what I learned, and the courses were incredibly encouraging when it came to putting what I learned into practice. Not only in the courses but also in the interactions I had, I received warm, constructive, and valuable feedback that made me feel appreciated. I highly recommend!
The IxDF has been a game-changer in my design journey. This online education platform contains some of the most in-depth and detailed training that every web and interface designer should have a background in. Complex concepts like UX design, usability, and interaction design are broken down into digestible lessons that are essential for any designer looking master the craft or keep their skills sharp.
As I transition into more UX/UI-based roles as a consultant, the constant AI hype can be overwhelming. The Interaction Design Foundation stands out by actually treating members like people. Their content is of consistently high quality, and you can feel a human-centered ethos guiding the community. It's refreshing to see an approach like this, especially in the midst of a career transition. I'm excited to see how they keep moving forward with such a pro-human focus through 2025 and beyond.
I’ve been taking courses with the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) for a while now, and it’s been one of the most valuable investments I’ve made in my professional development. The platform offers a wide variety of UX, UI, and product design topics, from beginner-friendly introductions to deep dives into specialized areas. What I appreciate most is that the content is grounded in research but still very practical, with clear examples I can apply directly to my work. The self-paced structure makes it easy to fit learning around a busy schedule, and I never feel rushed to complete a course. I’ve found the learning materials to be well-structured, with videos, readings, and exercises that complement each other. The certificates I’ve earned have been a great addition to my portfolio and LinkedIn profile, helping me stand out when applying for roles. Beyond the courses, IxDF has an active global community where you can discuss topics, ask questions, and connect with like-minded professionals. I’ve gained insights not only from the official materials but also from the discussions with peers around the world. The membership also gives me continuous access to new courses and updated content, so I’m always learning something fresh. Overall, IxDF has provided me with both knowledge and confidence in my design skills. I’d recommend it to anyone serious about improving in UX, whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your expertise. If you’ve been thinking about taking the leap into UX education, IxDF is a great place to begin and grow.
I have been a member of this great design and UX resource for a few years now. A few months ago I missed a discount rate just before my subscription renewal. Rikke and her team were amazing at helping me with this and was able to apply the discount to my membership and gave me a refund. The team were extremely speedy in dealing with my refund. Thank you again for your help Support team and Rikke!
I firstly became an IxDF member 3 years ago and recently renewed my membership. During the renew process, Rikke answered all of my questions quickly and they provided me with a discount. Reaching out IxDF's support team was so easy and time-saving. When I consider the context quality, I can say that seniors can find something to learn too. This platform is not only for juniors. Learning experience of IxDF has a crucial role in my career.
A game-changing resource for UX professionals. After two years of being a member of the Interaction Design Foundation, I can proudly say it has been the most impactful source of knowledge in my career, from Master Classes to carefully crafted courses by world-leading UX experts. I have never regretted renewing my membership, even if I did not make huge academic progress every year, because just one course can elevate your career to the next level if you choose wisely and focus on what you need to grow. For anyone serious about professional development, IxDF should become part of your lifestyle. Apply the knowledge practically, and you will progress toward your career goals.
My background in psychology laid the groundwork for diving into user experience, but I was not prepared for how much smoother the journey would be with this supportive community. The curriculum strikes the perfect balance between video and text, matching my preferred learning style. This blend brings complex ideas to life and makes it easier to apply them in real-world contexts. Embarking on a career shift is never easy, but the encouragement, guidance, and mentorship I received have been vital to keeping me on track. I also feel profoundly grateful for the scholarship awarded to me—it is not just financial help; it is a vote of confidence that has empowered me to thrive in this new field. I am eager to keep growing and learning alongside this incredible community. Thank you, IxDF family <3
The Interaction Design Foundation, IxDF, has been an absolute game-changer in my design journey. Over the past year, I have taken so many of their courses, and each one has expanded my skills in UX, usability, and interface design in ways that are both practical and immediately applicable. What sets IxDF apart is the clarity and structure of their curriculum. Complex topics are broken down into digestible, well-paced lessons that respect your time without cutting corners. Standouts for me include Personas and User Research with William Hudson, which gave me concrete, repeatable methods for building user-centered products from the ground up. And if you are ready to dig deeper, Formal Design Methods: Formalism and Design with Professor Alan Dix is in a class of its own. It is one of the most impactful courses I have taken—online or anywhere. It reframed how I think about design structure, logic, and the systems behind user experience. It is not light reading, but it is foundational in the best possible way. The instructor lineup is rock-solid. William Hudson, Alan Dix, Frank Spillers (his accessibility content is essential), and the legendary Don Norman all bring serious expertise to the table. It is not just theory—it is grounded, actionable, and rooted in real-world best practices. With a global community of designers, local meetups, and a platform that keeps getting better, IxDF is easily one of the best investments I have made in my ongoing design education. If you are serious about mastering the craft—or just keeping your skills razor-sharp—this is where you want to be.
I am happy to be a part of the IxDF community! As someone who grew up in Armenia with limited opportunities to interact and learn from professionals, this platform has given me a solid foundation. Some technologies are still not easily accessible in my country, so understanding new tools and innovations is especially important for a UX designer. Thanks to IxDF, I am gaining these valuable skills. I am truly grateful to the founders and lecturers—they are incredibly kind and responsive. Whenever I have sent an email or mentioned someone in a LinkedIn post, they have always replied. I highly recommend the IxDF community to anyone looking to grow in the UX field.
IxDF has been a lifeline for me during an ongoing challenging career transition. The platform is packed with well-structured, insightful materials and genuinely helpful guidance, which I relied on throughout my master’s degree as a valuable additional source, and continued to use afterwards. What truly sets IxDF apart is the human touch. People like Rikke go above and beyond to support members, even during difficult times. Highly recommended for anyone serious about learning UX the right way.
I found the Interaction Design Foundation, IxDF, at a point when I was exploring the shift from a safety design and construction background into the world of UX and service design. What I did not expect was how deeply it would help me connect the dots across my past experience and give structure to my growth as a designer. Through IxDF, I gained not only strong foundational knowledge, but also the confidence to lead community events, collaborate across disciplines, and grow professionally, both as a UX designer and as a mentor to others. What makes IxDF special is the depth of the content, the supportive community, and the clear focus on real-world, human-centered design, not just flashy tools or trends. If you are looking for a space to grow, rethink how you work, or just connect with others who genuinely care about design, IxDF is it!

Every course is a joy—well-structured content, delivered with great clarity. IxDF did not just help me learn—it empowered me to share that knowledge with my community and communicate more effectively with stakeholders in my projects. The templates provided in the courses have also been incredibly useful for standardizing and speeding up my workflow. And I absolutely love the strong ethical foundation they bring to design. These courses have accelerated my growth as a designer and equipped me with tools I will continue to build on for years to come. Their friendly, easy, and straightforward approach made the partnership effortless from start to finish. I highly recommend IxDF to anyone seeking a knowledgeable and reliable partner for design-related events.
Used to scour YouTube and blogs trying to piece together a UX education and then I found IxDF. The difference was night and day. Their structured, self-paced lessons helped me retain information. I completed three certificates in Interaction Design, UX Psychology, and Design Thinking, while working full-time.
Welcoming community and excellent courses! I first encountered the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) a few years ago when I was pivoting to a UX UI career from graphic design and art direction. I found that IxDF offers a wide range of essential courses for beginner, intermediate and advanced practitioners. Besides the unlimited number of courses one can take, there are message boards where concepts and courses can be discussed and one can seek industry advice. The courses themselves are created by experts, and not one had any sort of filler. They are packed with information. The courses are a combination of text and videos, and they are paced very well. Finally, there are seminars offered where a token fee is asked for ($5, I think) and a particular topic is discussed on a live Zoom call. This was one of my favorite features. I enjoyed interacting with other students and the teachers. I learned a lot from these. The administration of IxDF is always accessible and friendly. (I always contacted them via email when I had a concern or question). I recommend IxDF as a great source for learning about UX design at any level!
IxDF provides a unique UX/Design learning experience with its great courses from experienced tutors who can provide timeless knowledge on their topics. Courses by Brian Witworth, Frank Spillers, great content. By the way, it is affordable to people who live in a developing country like yours truly. Back when I learnt about IxDF, I was designing for some years and was willing to transition to UX/Service Design, but still needed proper education on UX topics before applying myself to those positions. With the contribution from these courses I could transition into UX Design and develop my career out of it to this day. If you are looking for high-quality UX-related certification with affordable price, have a look at IxDF's offers. There's a lot for you in there.
Fantastic detail, outstanding presentation & great resources! Recently attended an IxDF Master Class on User Research for Everyone with Alex McMahon... the session was incredibly informative with super helpful and very practical tips offered, along with great links to resources. The detail will be fantastically supportive of any type of project work you might have and answers every question in concert with what I am working on in my current studies this semester (app development and web design). The timing is perfect! The information is brilliant! And the presentation of the material is crystal clear! Thank you, IxDF! Wish I had found you sooner, but super grateful to have found you now!
IxDF Excellence! I've found the IxDF courses to be professionally structured and highly impactful. The content has encouraged me to explore UX from new angles(), and the insights gained have been incredibly valuable.
Breaking into UX felt like a dream, but after completing five courses on IxDF, I landed my first junior designer role. The Design Thinking and UI Design courses were especially helpful, offering both structure and flexibility. I appreciated being able to learn at my own pace. The certificates added value to my LinkedIn profile, and I still visit their community forums to connect with other learners.

The IxDF has significantly enriched my professional journey as a designer. I've recently completed the 'AI for Designers' course by IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation - and it was truly insightful! From supercharging ideation to streamlining research, AI is steadily becoming an essential part of every designer's toolkit. This course reinforced an important truth: Design will always be about empathy, creativity, and solving real problems. AI simply helps us do it better.

One year ago, I left my agency role and packed my things to move to Finland. Not just for a change of scenery, but for deep personal and professional growth. Since then, I've realized: When you're a freelancer or building your own project, ongoing education isn't optional, it's essential to stay aligned with the evolving needs of clients and markets. That's why I've committed to continuously developing my design and research skills. Recently, I have completed this Journey Mapping course by IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation, which I highly recommend, even for seasoned designers!

I wish I had found this sooner! When I first got into UX/UI design, I had no idea where to start. There were so many courses out there-some crazy expensive, others just way too theoretical. I wanted something practical, affordable, and actually useful. That's when I found Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF), and honestly, it made such a difference!

IxDF is the right place for you if you're in search of the perfect balance between academic rigor and practical relevance... Sometimes you need more than learning. You need someone to believe in you, because motivation is more important than knowledge. Motivation is what pushes you to learn. Interaction Design Foundation is all about that.

IxDF helps us meet the very specific learning needs of our UX roles—something we’ve struggled to find elsewhere. The user activity reports also give us great visibility into our team’s progress.
I'm excited to share that I’ve officially become a registered member of IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation. Even as someone who teaches and mentors others, I never stop learning. Learning, for me, is less about keeping up and more about staying curious. With so much shifting in tech and AI, it feels good to plug into a space that values thoughtful, well-researched design. Looking forward to what’s ahead.
Recently, while taking the Mobile UI Design course on the IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation, I explored a concept that stuck with me: Affordances — those visual (or sometimes hidden) hints in UI that help users understand what they can do. To apply what I learned, I chose to analyze one of the apps I use often: Cambly. If you’re not familiar with it, Cambly connects users with native English-speaking tutors for live, one-on-one lessons. 🧭 What I looked at: I focused on the Home Screen, where the main task is simple — get into a lesson. The app gives you 3 clear options: Schedule a lesson - Explore tutors - Take a lesson now. 💡 Here’s what caught my eye from an affordance perspective: 💬 There’s a chat icon at the top right. It’s familiar, and it makes you think, “Okay, I can message someone here.” 👀 The stats section (showing total lessons & minutes) is tappable — but there’s no visual clue that it is. I honestly didn’t notice it was interactive until I tested it. That’s what the course calls a hidden affordance, and now I totally get why that’s something to avoid. ✅ The 3 big buttons are super intuitive. Each one has an icon, a label, and a right arrow — they clearly say “tap me!” 🎯 Lastly, in the “Schedule” section, the tutor card also has a chevron and image — and yes, it invites tapping for more details. What I found fascinating was how many types of affordances were working together (or sometimes, not quite enough) on just one screen. It made me realize how important these small signals/signifiers are for a smooth user experience. Grateful for how this course is training my eyes to notice the little things that make a big difference in UX.
At 16, I found @ixdf_org. Couldn't afford the membership, so I learned from the free content and kept building. 2.5 years later, at 19, I finally got their annual scholarship. No referrals. Just cold reachouts, follow-ups, and staying close to what mattered. Play the long game.
I completed the Conducting Usability Testing course by IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation, earning the Top 10% distinction. Thank you, IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation, for delivering such a practical, in-depth course focused on real-world usability testing practices. From planning and recruiting participants to conducting and analyzing usability tests, this course sharpened my ability to uncover user insights and improve product experiences.
I didn’t go to university. I joined the workforce earlier than most. I came out of school, and straight into a college course: Graphic Communication → I didn’t have £30,000+ for university. I didn’t want to spend 3 years there. I couldn’t afford student housing. One of the biggest problems with Uni (apart from the astronomical price) is that the teachers are well-meaning, but haven’t spent any time in the real world applying the things they teach. All their knowledge is academic. But with the world changing SO MUCH today, we need real world experience. So after college, I taught myself. University costs nearly £30,000. But I pay just £180 per year today. And I can learn at my own pace. Because I learn at the: IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation. I've learned more from these courses than I’d have learned in a lecture hall. For only £180 per year(!!!) Which is £15 per month! or £3.75 per week, or 50p per day. Pennies! The teachers are industry professionals with experience to back up how their knowledge applies in the real world. It teaches you as much about business as it does about designing for business: → You don’t have to go to night school → You don’t go into huge lifelong debt → You don’t get just one course, either. They even have Master Classes for $5. Yes, seriously $5. Per class. Amazing! (I bought another one earlier today…) You can learn ANYTHING about design in a really easy, pick-up, put-down way. I don’t hype things up. But I LOVE this. So here’s 3 months FREE if you join this incredible community! https://lnkd.in/efAUasXt. The IxDF is an incredible way to learn. I highly recommend it for all Founders, and all designers serious about growth. No plug. Just a great membership to enhance your skills, and I recommend it cos I’ve seen the benefits firsthand. Enjoy!🕺 P.S. Big thanks to Mads Soegaard and Rikke Friis Dam for creating such a wonderful learning community that helps everyone, not just designers.
I’m very exited to be part of the Interaction Design Foundation, where I can learn about current trends in Design, Sustainability, User-Experience and many more topics!! A great way to keep in touch with what’s new in the discipline 🙌🏻 P.S - Thank you @ixdf_org for the postcard!
Excited to share that I’ve completed my 16th certification with IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation — Design for Thought and Emotion. This course reinforced how crucial emotions are in Human-Computer Interaction. Beyond efficiency and effectiveness, designing for satisfaction and enjoyment is equally important—benefiting both users’ well-being and business value.
Lately I became a Local Leader of IxDF in Poznań 🇵🇱 And I was very surprised to find a greeting postcard in my inbox that made it all the way from the US to Poland! 😃 There’s something genuinely satisfying about receiving a real, physical card in today’s digital world – it hits differently. Looking forward to building something great with the local design community.
I'm excited to share that I'm now a Professional Member of the IxDF - Interaction Design Foundation! Though I come from an architecture background, I’ve always found myself reimagining how we do business, not just for profit, but for real, lasting impact. That journey has led me through Systems Thinking, Human-Centered Design, and Business Modeling. Each one has shaped the way I think about people, about systems, and about purpose. And over time, I’ve come to realize something important about professional development: It becomes truly transformational when diverse knowledge, skill-sets and tools are integrated. That’s when you begin to see the connections between disciplines and ideas and gain something deeper: 1) A way of thinking that reveals opportunities others miss; 2) And the ability to execute solutions others ignore. Like IDEO U says, "this is how innovation leaders are built." That’s why discovering Service Design has been such a meaningful shift for me. I’ve just started the course "Service Design: How to Design Integrated Service Experiences," and already, I’m seeing how it brings everything together by helping me design services that prioritize business models that are grounded in empathy, informed by systems, and guided by strategy. Grateful to Daniel Tuitt for our recent conversation — it helped clarify this direction and gave me the nudge I needed. Looking forward to learning deeply, connecting meaningfully, and building solutions that serve people well.
I have just finished attending a masterclass @interaction_design_foundation on Adobe Firefly and Generative AI, with @howardpinsky. Although I was already acquainted with Firefly, I was able to learn a few new tips and tricks during the session. I enjoyed creating a few images - in the collage below.
5 years ago, I couldn't have imagined that I could earn money doing what I love. Web development and UX design has changed my life 180 degrees. This is a profession that is a hobby with a profession. P.S. With this QR code you can get 25% discount on courses of The Interaction Design Foundation. We wish you the best of luck!
I am excited to announce that I've joined the @interaction_design_foundation (IxDF) community, furthering my journey in user experience design. Looking forward to expanding my knowledge and connecting with fellow professionals in this field.
Joined the Interactive Design Foundation and was welcomed with this artful little gesture—a postcard offering you 3 months of free membership. Thoughtful, like good design should be. I placed it against a marble painting—because design, like marble, is layered, fluid, and built to last. Word is, I might receive a surprise for sharing this moment… so let’s see what unfolds.
✨ Wrapped the final course, learning streak complete! Just completed my final course in this round of UX/UI deep dives — Gamification: How to Create Engaging User Experiences from IxDF. Learning how to design for motivation and fulfillment through game-like experiences was the perfect way to cap off this journey. From visual perception to intuitive design, and now engagement strategy, it’s been an exciting stretch of growing as a designer. Excited to carry all this forward into more thoughtful, playful, and human-centered work. Onward!!
It’s fascinating how designers can modify their workflow by using AI. I really enjoyed “AI for designers” course from @interaction_design_foundation and looking forward to applying the knowledge hands on with my own projects!
I’m happy to share that I’ve earned a new certification: Human-Centered Design for AI from the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF)! 🎓 This course explored how to bridge the gap between complex AI systems and real human needs — emphasizing empathy, transparency, and trust as key elements in AI-driven design. Designing for AI isn't just about innovation — it’s about responsibility. Excited to apply these principles to create meaningful, user-first experiences powered by AI.
Yesterday, we gathered in Santiago for another IxDF Santo Domingo meetup, this time diving into one of the most common challenges in our field: "How can designers and developers collaborate without losing patience… or the integrity of the design?" Thanks to Robert Fermin Marcelino Camilo from Blue Coding, we explored what developers really value in design handoffs, how design systems can simplify the development process, and practical ways to improve communication between our disciplines. The session sparked open conversations about real-world workflows, challenges, and opportunities to work better together. It was also a reminder of what makes this community special: people from different cities, including those who traveled from Santo Domingo, coming together to share, learn, and grow. Special thanks to Leonardo Jimenez, who suggested this session and made the connection possible, and to everyone who showed up to make it another meaningful gathering. If you’re in the Dominican Republic and passionate about UX, interaction design, or tech, join us at IxDF Santo Domingo. It’s where we share resources, meetups, and opportunities to build a stronger design culture. Let’s keep building this community together.
Questions That Lead to Career Change
What's it like to change careers? Can I succeed in design without experience? Is it too late to start?
See how real people found honest answers and used them to create more freedom, income, and impact.
I joined IxDF a year ago and honestly, it’s been one of the most worthwhile investments I’ve made for my UX career. I started while transitioning from a graphic design background and didn’t have much UX knowledge beyond the surface stuff. The biggest value for me was that the courses go deep into thinking, logic, and user behavior—not just “how to use Figma” or clone trendy UI layouts. Some of the newer courses (like AI, behavioral design, and ethics) are especially relevant right now and helped me speak more confidently in interviews. I’ve actually built most of my current portfolio based on what I learned and applied from their exercises. You definitely need to be self-driven. It’s not a Bootcamp and there’s no hand-holding. But if you’re the kind of person who learns by reading, doing, reflecting, and taking ownership of your growth, then I’d say it’s 100% worth it.
I just wanted to share something that’s been on my mind for a while, and maybe it helps someone else here. I studied Interaction Design in university over a decade ago, but after graduation I ended up in a graphic design role. Print, banners, digital ads, fast-paced, client-driven stuff. Not bad work, but definitely not UX. Over time, I kind of gave up on the idea of actually doing UX. I figured I was too far removed from it — weak portfolio, no job title, no real experience. It felt like the ship had sailed. A while back though, I decided to try brushing up what I’d once learned. I joined the Interaction Design Foundation and started taking some courses — not expecting much, honestly. But something clicked. It wasn’t all gone. The ideas came back faster than I expected, and suddenly I had the language and confidence I’d been missing. I also started going to some local community events (organized through IxDF) and joined a few of their Master Classes. Just listening to other designers talk through their process reminded me I still belonged in the field. Not long after that, and not without a fair share of job rejections, I finally landed my first proper UX role. Today I’m working full-time as a UX designer at one of Sweden’s largest companies. And I actually love it. If you’re in that weird space between “I kinda know this” and “but who would hire me?” — I’ve been there. It’s not too late.
Just wanted to share my experience with the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) – honestly, it feels like falling into an ocean of resources. Every course is hyperlinked so deeply that you can’t just "complete" it like a checklist item. You click one link, it opens up a whole new world of insights, references, and case studies. It’s a rabbit hole—in the best way possible. What makes it even better is the community. You can host your own UX events, attend meetups, or join discussions with other learners around the world. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned designer, there's always something new to learn from others. Got questions? Their support team is surprisingly human—quick, kind, and genuinely helpful. Not your typical robotic replies. Also, even if you’re not a paid member, you can still read their blog posts—and trust me, they’re packed with practical takeaways.
I’m coming from a teaching background and used ixdf to break into UX last year. Their explanations felt way more structured than just bouncing around on YouTube. I paired it with some Figma challenges and joined a local UX meetup to test what I was learning. I didn’t even do all their courses, just 3-4 of the right ones and it gave me a solid base.
A lot of people have actually used IxDF to successfully pivot into UX design, especially those coming from non-design backgrounds like marketing, development, teaching, or even HR. The key thing is they didn’t just rely on watching videos or finishing courses. They took the theory and started applying it in side projects, rebirth challenges, internships, freelance gigs, or personal UX case studies. IxDF gives a strong foundation in design thinking, usability, interaction models, and more which helps them sound confident and structured in interviews. Some even paired it with free tools like Figma and community projects on sites like ADPList or UX Collective to build real world credibility. The ones who succeeded usually talked about how they used IxDF to shape their problem solving mindset and backed it up with a decent portfolio and storytelling. So yeah, it’s totally been done but it works best when you treat IxDF as the base, not the whole strategy.
I’m a senior UX designer, and IxDF helped me break through a plateau in my growth. Here’s what changed for me. After 16+ years in UX and frontend development, I hit a point in my career where I wasn’t learning as much as I used to. I was mentoring designers, leading projects, and building design systems, but I started to feel like I was running on experience alone, not curiosity. I decided to try out the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) to see if it could give me a fresh perspective. I wasn’t expecting much beyond a few decent refreshers, but it ended up helping me reframe how I think about UX strategy, mentoring, and collaboration.
I’ve been on a similar path, completely self-taught and relying heavily on IxDF. Honestly, it’s been super solid for building core UX knowledge. The courses go deep into usability, design thinking, and user research without feeling overwhelming. What helped me most was pairing the courses with small Figma projects and doing mini case studies based on what I learned. The only real “gap” I felt was around design tools and portfolio storytelling IxDF gives you the theory and structure, but you’ll still want to get hands-on with actual tools and learn how to present your work. But overall, if you stay consistent, IxDF gives you a legit foundation.
I used IxDF when I was shifting careers and did not want to invest in an expensive Bootcamp, so I can share how it worked for me. The courses gave me a structured way to cover UX fundamentals and build confidence, but the key was taking what I learned and turning it into case studies with Figma and real projects. IxDF alone did not hand me a portfolio but it gave me the theory and frameworks to create one. When I combined that with my design background and side projects I was able to start freelancing and eventually land interviews.
I've seen quite a few folks successfully pivot into UX using IxDF, especially those coming from design or adjacent fields. IxDF is super budget-friendly and offers deep, structured courses that go beyond surface-level theory, great if you’ve already explored basics. Their content is used by MIT and IBM, so it’s legit, and the courses include practical exercises you can turn into real portfolio projects. Plus, with 30+ topics (like UX Strategy, UI Design Patterns, and even AI for Designers), you can tailor your learning. If you’re self-taught and need structure without bootcamp pricing, IxDF is a solid investment.
I’m newer like you, and everything I’ve read says your portfolio matters more than where you learned. It sounds like it comes down to your learning style and how much support you want. I’m currently taking IxDF courses and learning a ton. My biggest hurdle will be real life projects (which most boot camps don’t offer, either). After I learn a bit more, I’m going to ask to shadow a project at my company even though I work in a totally unrelated department. IxDF is so inexpensive and has some pretty great content, but you need to be motivated to make progress.
I think IxDF can be a solid starting point, especially if you're transitioning from another field. the courses are structured and well-researched, and while they’re not a replacement for real-world projects, they’re definitely something worth adding to your CV. Just make sure to apply what you learn and build a portfolio alongside.
I made the switch from another design field too, and IxDF was honestly a great starting point. The content goes deeper than most free resources and is well-structured, especially if you’re self-teaching. While employers don’t necessarily look for IxDF, listing specific courses and tying them to real projects or case studies has definitely helped me in interviews. It's not a golden ticket, but it’s respected for the quality and depth it offers — and way more affordable than most bootcamps. Worth it if you're serious about the transition.
Coming from a visual and branding background, diving into UX fundamentals can feel like peeling back a whole new layer. IxDF is solid for grounding yourself in user-centered design and accessibility basics, which too often get overlooked. What’s stood out to me is how accessibility and inclusivity are not just checkboxes but foundational to good UX. It’s humbling realizing how many design decisions silently exclude real people until you actively test for it.
I’ve taken several IxDF courses and found them to be a great long-term resource. The biggest plus for me is the depth of the content and how research-driven it is - you’re not just getting surface-level theory. I also liked being able to choose courses based on what I needed at the time rather than following a fixed path. It’s been helpful for building a stronger foundation and applying ideas directly to my projects.
One underrated part of IxDF is their templates and case study walkthroughs. I was rusty on documentation and needed to prepare for interviews fast. Their materials made it easy to build out a simple case study that didn’t feel forced. That helped me talk through my process more clearly and show I still understood UX, even with a gap on my resume.
IxDF has very useful libraries that I reference all the time. I find the courses really need you to be fully engaged and can take some time to complete in comparison to many of lessons out there, I personally think it’s a great resource, especially if you want to build a strong UX foundation.
Didn’t expect this much value at that price. I tried IxDF because the price seemed low for what they offered. I thought it would be just a quick theory, but the platform surprised me. The video format is sharp, and the real examples in each section gave me tools I could use right away. I now recommend it to friends trying to start UX without a bootcamp.
I tried other platforms first, but IxDF changed my pace. I switched to IxDF after spending weeks jumping between free videos. The layout felt more organized, and the course steps helped me actually apply UX concepts instead of just watching someone else do it. The content in video format, combined with structured lessons, gave me a rhythm I couldn’t get elsewhere.
IxDF certificates are more about showing structured learning than being a magic ticket to a job. Most recruiters will focus on your portfolio and real-world projects, but having a few IxDF certificates can still help signal that you’ve taken the time to learn UX fundamentals systematically. They’re especially useful if you’re switching careers or just starting out, and can make your profile look more complete alongside actual project work. Definitely pair them with a strong portfolio to get the most impact.
I have been learning with IxDF for some time now and I’m more than happy with the content provided, how it’s structured - text and videos, how it’s organized and the amount available - more than 30 courses, plus Master classes on various, hot topics. Masterclasses on AI and UX are for example now available. I love the fact that there are courses with Don Norman as well, I already passed one and looking forward to the other one. On top of all that - there is an open library with tones of useful reading, materials and templates, and a wide community for sharing experiences and encouragement. My warm, warm recommendation!
They won me after a short visit to IxDF from a short e-mail recived. Instantly after that, I understood what UX truly is. On my first visit on IxDF website I wanted to create an account but I closed it halfway because something intervened. After a few days I received an e-mail from ixdf where they asked me if I encountered any technical problems during my account creation. That made my day because I’ve never seen any company do this with their customers. The quality of the courses is outstanding. It is a great structure with a lot of examples that help you understand how the methods are applied in real life. The Interaction Design Foundation is between the very few where their focus is only on teaching and not on earning. When you do something with passion it's impossible to fail. Keep up the good work.
One underrated gem is Interaction Design Foundation’s free UX literature and beginner guides. Most people jump to paid courses, but IxDF has deeply researched, beginner friendly content that many skip. Also, check out their glossary and topic maps they are gold when you are trying to connect concepts. It is a solid place to build a real foundation before diving into pricey bootcamps.
The IxDF has given me a direct path for training talented young creatives in UX theory for an affordable price. As they progress through their coursework it elevates our conversation around design. The theoretical foundation of UX has always been the most difficult thing to train a student in. IxDF has made it simple, and I've been able to send the elevator of success back down much more effectively as a result.
Shortly after beginning my new role as senior designer for an advertising agency, I started taking IxDF courses at my new manager’s recommendation. The suggestion was, in part, to ensure all the agency’s designers have a similar level of UI/UX knowledge. In that regard, IxDF has been vital in filling in my personal mastery gaps. Moreso, this initiative has also led to the implementation of usability heuristics and accessibility into our ways of working across the design department. Understanding how to build accessible systems, predict how a user might interact throughout a user journey, and design those systems to adapt to different devices has given me the tools to make better decisions and become a stronger designer. I have always felt that with any design experience comes a basic understanding of usability, but to be productive and efficient, it is important to understand the process and psychology behind good design decisions. This has been my greatest takeaway from the IxDF courses.
I have enrolled on the IxDF courses a year ago and up to now it has been a great sources of learning for me. I have a background in industrial design and graphics. I have been working as a UX/UI designer for sometime now, but IxDF helped me sharpens my skills, update me on important foundations and helped me educate myself way more on UX research. I can say that the courses are very well shaped, I love the questions and tests at the end of each short class, they make you test yourself and apply your understanding directly on quick projects or samples (even more important if you are starting or want to start a career in digital design). There are courses on many different aspects of our ever changing sector, UX design/Interaction design/visual design/usability/UI design/front-end dev/PM/User research. And I am eager to study them all 😁 I have already completed 7 courses and I am using IxDF as my main source of learning and development in my professional career, it’s great! 🔥🔥🔥.
I learned about Interaction design when I was a student at NIFT by one of our professors. He shared his learnings from the course, which we found very useful. So I explored the website and got myself enrolled. I love the team of foundation, as they have always been available over email and helped me solve any problem that I faced. I love the way each course has been laid down and the motivating reminders I get when I get too busy to devote time to the courses. With my learnings from these courses, I have managed to implement a lot of this knowledge at the firm where I work. I created a UX team by involving brand strategists, managers, and designers to help me ideate and create beautiful and functional websites at my firm. I am able to see the little details with the help of my course and improve the experience of the users using our client's website. The path is long but if we have a guide or mentor, things become a little easy than before. I am more mindful of all the designs that I create today, not only for websites and apps but also for the products with which we work.
Each course I have taken has, with some attentive and consistent work, been made easy by the intuitive and engaging design of the courses. The know-how and vast experience of the course designers and instructors is evident. The sense of community among fellow participants, online and even offline, really helps on one's learning journey of exploring the whys, hows, wheres and whens, while discovering new paths and new connections enroute. It's been great!! More to come :) Just a wee anecdote: On my wall above my desk I have a 'Design is intelligence made visible' postcard I received from IxDF when I first joined in 2019. Placed under it is a small and delicate looking ornate now-tarnished silver spoon, which I received from my wonderful design teacher going-on 20 years ago. I intend to leave it in its curent unpolished state while on my learning journeys with IxDF, as I define, refine and polish my skills and shape and make design visible, or indeed invisible. It symbolises where inherent qualities and innate talents meet the enduring quality of good process and great design, which is exactly what we get to evolve at IxDF. Just to emphasise the sense of community and ethos which is notable; it really does come right from Mads and Rikke, the founders of IxDF, who are genuinely just an email away. Thanks to Rikke in particular for her warm and easy communication - which afterall is one of the key elements of good design!!
I’ve had an amazing time learning at IxDF. And particularly notable is Laura Klein's session on Agile teams. It's still fresh in my head. I'm grateful for the reminders I also had to take the course, even though it took me quite a while. The format of the course is all encompassing as there’s text and audio-visuals. Super interactive, and the variety of the course is apt. Each platforms serves a purpose, and I believe IxDF is serving its purpose of deepening one’s knowledge of UX. Focusing on foundations, one auguments that with practicing the visuals on design softwares, with the underlying principles to birth amazing user experiences. It’s work, it’s not always easy but definitely worth it!
